Log and trace services

The default log and trace service for Teracloud® Streams logs events and messages in rolling log files on each resource. Because the logs are distributed across the cluster, use the streamtool getlog command to collect the logs from each resource for easy examination.

For more information about the types of log and trace files and their default location on each resource, see Managing log and trace data for Teracloud Streams.

Collect, view, and remove log and trace data

The log and trace files provide valuable troubleshooting information about the conditions that generate the problems that you encounter. The log file messages provide descriptive solution information that you can use to resolve the error and warning conditions. The informational messages in the log files provide feedback about the operations and commands that you run, and provide feedback about the system operations.

To learn how Teracloud® Streams administrators, instance owners, and application developers can manage the log and trace data by using streamtool commands and the Streams Console, see Options for managing log and trace data for Teracloud® Streams.

From the command-line interface, you can use the following commands to work with the log and trace files:
  • To collect the log and trace data, use the streamtool getlog command.
  • To view the log and trace data, use the streamtool viewlog command.
  • To remove the log and trace data, use the streamtool cleanlog command.
Note: Collect or view logs before canceling, stopping or restarting any jobs or services as some logs are removed when these actions are performed.
